BREAKING NEWS: PM Urges to Reduce the Number of Gatherings

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has raised concerns about the rise of the new Covid-19 Omicron Variant in Cambodia, calling for the strengthening of health measures at gathering places such as clubs, bars, beer garden, weddings, rituals and other gatherings, he has reminded to keep the company small. He has also said that this is not a step backwards of the opening the country, but to prevent serious catastrophe to the society.

In a special audio message this evening, Cambodia’s premier has said that the number of cases of Omicron today has climbed to 200 cases, which is a concern for public health. He has added that although the cases are only found in Phnom Penh, it is necessary to prevent the new virus from spreading across the country, like what happened in the past.

He has said: "We have come too far and we should avoid to fail."

He has requested all authorities and businesses to thoroughly examine and implement the 3dos and 3don’ts measure, especially wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining social distance.

The Prime Minister has also urged people to get Covid-19 vaccinated, both the first two dose and the booster dose for everyone to reduce the risk and hospitalization due to this epidemic.

As of February 7, Cambodia has found nearly 1,000 cases of Omicron infecting communities in Cambodia.
